[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]Ra\u00edzen, a joint venture between Royal Dutch Shell Plc and\u00a0Cosan SA, is acquiring Shell\u2019s lubricant business in Brazil.[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]In a securities filing this week, Cosan said the agreement signifies \u201cthe acquisition of the entirety of Shell\u2019s lubricants business in Brazil by Ra\u00edzen.\u201d[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]Shell\u2019s lubricant assets include the lubricant blending plant located on Ilha do Governador and the Duque de Caxias base, both in Rio de Janeiro, in addition to the supply and distribution chain and their respective contracts. Shell has around 230 employees.[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]Financial details of the operation, as well as projections for the new business area, were not disclosed because of Ra\u00edzen\u2019s IPO filing last week.[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]Ra\u00edzen has been Shell\u2019s exclusive lubricants sales agent since 2011 through a 10-year contract signed between the two companies. With the contract\u2019s expiration, Ra\u00edzen and Shell expanded the scope of their relationship, which resulted in the purchase of the lubricants business by Ra\u00edzen.[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]Additionally, on May 21, 2021, Ra\u00edzen announced that the company has entered into an agreement with Shell Brands International AG renewing Ra\u00edzen\u2019s right to use the Shell trademark in the fuel distribution business and related activities for a minimum period of 13 years, renewable in certain cases and subject to certain terms and conditions.[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]The move significantly expands the presence of one of the largest Brazilian conglomerates in this market. Shell currently has a 14.9% market share, and monthly average sales of 14,500 cubic meters in 2021, according to data from the National Association of Fuel and Lubricant Distributors (Sindicom), which Ra\u00edzen will inherit. At the same time, Cosan has its own lubricants business acquired from ExxonMobil\u2019s lubricants business in Brazil, which was re-named\u00a0Moove\u00a0in 2016.[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]If approved by Brazil\u2019s antitrust regulator, Cade, the acquisition will make Ra\u00edzen\/Cosan a new market leader in the lubricants sector, with a share of at least 28%.
